Introduction Bruinsma Seeds
Bruinsma Seeds is part of Seminis Vegetable Seeds, the largest vegetable seed company in the world.
Within this company Bruinsma is the European specialist for heated, fruited crops: tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and sweet pepper. Seminis is known for its efforts regarding Research and Development. Bruinsma also uses these facilities a.o. via the Seminis Research Center in Wageningen. For the development of new varieties we use our breeding center in Honselersdijk, in the heart of the Westland. Here you will also find the Bruinsma demonstration glasshouses, where we show known and new varieties. Not only growers (associations) but also, for example, merchants and studygroups know how to find these demo glasshouses.
Year-long experience
Bruinsma Seeds was founded in 1934 and has grown to be the specialist in heated crops it is today. Typical examples of the success of Bruinsma are a.o. the production of the first tomato hybrid and the introduction of the beeftomato, both in Western Europe.
High quality demands
Bruinsma keeps close contact with the different parties in the chain. In this way we know what the growers want and we also know the demands of the market. This information is the basis for the development of new varieties. This results in varieties with a high production capacity that can be grown labour friendly, with a good product quality and a high degree of disease resistance.
Through our contacts with a.o. business houses we know what is going on. As we are market orientated, we direct our attention to the outside. We know the European market, but we are also aware of the global markets and are constantly looking for new, interesting cultures. This reflects in our products. In addition to the "standard varieties" we also develop so called specialties, such as mini sweet peppers and sweet point peppers. Our varieties are in demand by the market and are to the taste of the consumer.
